Technology- Mad world video

Watching the "Mad World" video was very eye opening. The video is done in black and white and creates a somewhat of a dark depressing mood with the main message of "These Systems are failing us"- focusing on the theme of cell phones and the addiction of them as well as social media. Over the three minutes it shows issues that occur in our society that tend to be over looked or people ignore.

The main theme throughout the video was the addiction of cellphones. This was show in my different ways- all true and relavent to todays society. For example, a man was being beat up and a crowd of people were hovering watching. Instead of helping, everyone was recording the violence on their phones. This is seen all time on twitter and facebook where people would rather post on social media than actually help someone. Another example was how cell phones are just a mask for our emotions. In the video a depressed looking teenager was sending happy, smiling emojis via text. To the person he was texting, he seemed fine but in reality he was upset but no one knew because he was hiding behind his screen.

Another example which is very serious and hard to talk about is the need that people feel for acceptance by society and when they feel they don't have it can lead to serious harm such as sucicde.  In the video, a girl is being mocked, starred at and harassed by her peers. They record her, and took pictures of her (a reference to social media and online bullying in my opinion) You can tell she is upset and feels lost- it then shows a clip of her standing on a building ledge wanting to jump.

Although cell phones, social media and technology is great, it has a lot of negative impacts as well. This is especially true in todays day because kids are getting involved with social media and phones at a younger age and everyone around them is addicted to their devices. This video was a very cleaver way to show these issues and addressed things are common problems but are not always talked about.

History of the Supreme Court

The U.S Supreme Court is the highest level and most powerful justice system in our country. The system first began under the passage of the Judiciary Act in 1789, and became official in 1790 with its first formal assembly. The court system then moved to D.C in 1801, to be in the Capitol building. Once in D.C, John Marshel led the first official movement which dealt with a strike of an act of congress being unconstitutional. This case helped make the constitution more effective and fair. Being appointed to serve on the Supreme Court is a challenging but honorary job. In order to serve in the Supreme Court, the President of The United States must appoint the Judge. Although a President serves for 4-8 years, many judges stay in position longer than the President that appointed them. The average time served for a judge is 16 years, but many judges chose to stay longer. Today, 9 judges make up the Supreme Court. On average, they receive about 7,000 cases a year- including protest and a...

EOTO Project- SMITH-MUNDT ACT

The Smith Mundt Act was originally introduced in 1945. Known as the Bloom Bill, the original bill was to allow up and coming technologies like the radio to be permanent and accessible for the public. It also controlled propaganda sent out by the U.S government. However, the bill was denied because it was seen as pro Russian and pro communism. Considering the time frame (cold war),  it is not an unreasonable thought for law makers to have. After working on the bill for a few years, it was passed and signed by President Truman in 1948. Formally becoming a law known as "The U.S. Information and Educational Exchange Act of 1948". Although there was still some doubt about the new law, Congress made it clear that it needed to cover 6 major things: Tell the truth; explain the motives of the United States; bolster morale and extend hope; give a true and convincing picture of American life, methods, and ideals; combat misrepresentation and distortion; and aggressively interpret ...

Diffusion of Innovations

Netflix Diffusion: Today, Netflix is a high demand, popular streaming service that almost every household has. However, it did take some time to grow and develop. At the start, Netflix was a DVD rental service much like a Block Buster or Family Video- it had some support and business but was not too popular. It was not until the personal computer became so common and accessible to the everyday person that Netflix caught on.  When the streaming service launched in 2007, everyone with a laptop computer could now watch shows and movies at their fingertips without having to go to the store and rent a DVD. Because it was so simple and easy, Netflix started to spread and attract more monthly subscribers. Once launched in Europe, Netflix became known worldwide and was taking over the industry. I think so many people were early adaptors because it was a new decade- a new age of technology and people wanted to try everything offered. Companies like Apple and Pc were head of the market...
